Over 200 Pounds of Food Donated During 2010 Sioux Empire Home ShowTM

March 23, 2010 --- The Sioux Falls Food Pantry receives over 200 pounds of food donations from a food drive held during the 2010 Sioux Empire Home ShowTM (March 5-7). Over 9,000 attendees to the event helped fight hunger by donating items such as peanut butter and jelly, crackers, cereal and much more.

”The Sioux Falls Food Pantry would like to thank everyone for thinking of us at the Home Show,” said Dick Baird, Sioux Falls Food Pantry Manager. “It’s been a tough couple of years as our number of clients has grown by about 60%.  But no matter how many times they are asked, the people of the Sioux Empire always come to help out.”

During the Home Show event, coordinated by the Home Builders Association of the Sioux Empire (HBASE), consumers were also encouraged to donate their empty printer cartridges. Cartridge World in Sioux Falls donates a certain dollar varying from cartridge sizes to styles. Because of 40 cartridges were donated during the Home Show, $60 will be donated to the Sioux Empire Home Builders Care Foundation.

The Care Foundation is the 501 (c) 3 charitable arm of the HBASE. It provides scholarships, tools for schools and also funding for the Repair Affair program. The Foundation receives financial support from direct donations in addition to fundraising activities like the on-going printer cartridge drive.  A drop box is located at the HBASE office during regular business hours.
